FITTING ROOM
DEC 2013
Curated by Something Human Curatorial Collective at Deptford High Street, as par of the event 'Winter, as if', produced by Deptford Society, London.
Performed on the 07th December in South London, Deptdord, at 2pm, in the shop 'The Red Carpet'.
FITTING ROOM by Lorena Lo Pena is a response to the standards of beauty and the 'ideal' of a female body imposed by the media and fashion industry in our society. Through the performance, the artist struggle with her own body size to 'fit in' clothes and will attempt to modify it, as much as she can, with cellotape. Finally, she reaches her release after a ridiculous amount of cellotape is covering her body and she can hardly breathe, recognizing and reconciliating with her own body.
