The Acts II (2006) In Festival de Mujeres Creadoras, Yuyachkani.
The starting point for this performance is the femicide that is occurring on the Mexico/US border. It is an attempt to examine the political and aesthetic implications of the consequences of socio-sexual oppressions that remain a brutal reality for sectors of women worldwide.
"We don't speak of; we don't want to know of, the possibility of our daughters becoming prey. It doesn't bear thinking about."
In the last 14 years as many as 500 young women have been abducted and brutally murdered city of Juárez on the US border in northern Mexico. Despite worldwide pressure and publicity, no-one has yet been successfully prosecuted.
Developed over the past years in Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Spain, Argentina and Wales, with an international cast of twelve women, The Acts is a theatrical performance in response to these events.
Jill Greenhalgh is a performance artist and director from Wales, UK. She is also the Founder and Artistic Director of The Magdalena Project, an International Network of Women in Contemporary Theatre. Since 2002, she has held a full time Lectureship in Performance Studies, University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
